Assalamualaikum w.b.t.
Now let me tell you another
biggest tragedy that occur about 28 years ago,The Chernobyl disaster. This was
the worst and dangerous nuclear accident that occur on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl
nuclear plant at Ukraine. An explosion and fire released large quantities
of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread over much of the
western USSR and Europe. During the accident many people died and suffered
long term effects such as cancers, deformities and etc.
OVERVIEW
The disaster began during a systems test on Saturday, 26
April 1986 at reactor number four of the Chernobyl plant. There was a sudden
and unexpected power surge, and when an emergency shutdown was attempted, an
exponentially larger spike in power output occurred, which led to a reactor
vessel rupture and a series of steam explosions. These events exposed the
graphite moderator of the reactor to air, causing it to ignite. The resulting
fire sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an
extensive geographical area, including Pripyat. The plume drifted over large
parts of the western Soviet Union and Europe
Thirty one deaths are directly attributed to the accident,
all among the reactor staff and emergency workers. An UNSCEAR report places the
total confirmed deaths from radiation at 64 as of 2008. The Chernobyl Forum
predicts the eventual death toll could reach 4000 among those exposed to the
highest levels of radiation, this figure is a total causal death toll
prediction, combining the deaths of approximately 50 emergency workers who died
soon after the accident from acute radiation syndrome, nine children who have
died of thyroid cancer and a future predicted total of 3940 deaths from radiation-induced
cancer and leukaemia.
CHERNOBYL CITY(NOW)
The city was left abandoned until now because the radioactivity around the city were still high even though the tragedy was 28 years passed.
CONCLUSIONS
from this tragedy the world can take the lesson to behave when using nuclear power as the main energy. This requires experts to handle the nuclear plant safely to avoid any accident again.
Alhamdulilah in Malaysia, we dont have any nuclear terminal. And for Ukraine, the city had been like a haunted place (based on the picture). I cant imagine how do we feel if we had lost our own city.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I heard about this incident and it reminds me about Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragedy. I don't know why. Even the factor of both tragedy are different but the it gives same impact as they are. A lot of people died and innocent children infected by the nuclear radiation especially for the new born baby. I agreed with Syairah Ismail that we must be thank to Allah that our country free from the nuclear station that may repeat the same incident as Chernobyl...
ReplyDeleteLast year there were some people visiting our school and promoting to the students to use this energy source in Malaysia. I don't expect that the effects are bad as the photos. Now, I already knew and I will not agree if Malaysia want to use any nuclear energy because we're already have many renewable sources right? I must say that prevention is better than cure!!
ReplyDeleteyes u're right
Deletewe should shut down all the nuclear activities in this world to live in peace and no war. This poor city is popular in computer games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, so i had learned a little bit about this place.
ReplyDeleteactually, nuclear source is really good for our life, but now some people use it for bad things(war)...
